***** PLEASE NOTE: *****
On-line registration is now closed. Participants may still register onsite.
The Fifth World Congress of Cliometrics will be held July 8-11, 2004, at Venice International University, Venice, Italy. Papers will be circulated in advance so all registered participants can read them before the Congress. Sessions will be conducted in "Clio Style": instead of formal presentations by authors, session time allocated for each paper will be devoted to discussion. Participation is not limited; registration is open to all members of sponsoring organizations. We encourage you to circulate this announcement to your students and colleagues.
REGISTRATION
On-line registration is now closed. Participants may still register onsite. The conference will be held at Venice International's conference center. The conference center will accommodate roughly 150 individuals. Most of the center's rooms are single rooms (70 single rooms, 37 doubles, and two triples), and all of the beds are single beds. Priority will be given to authors of papers on the program and those who register early. We ask all participants, including graduate students and authors presenting papers, to proceed promptly with registration, even if travel arrangements are not yet completed. Participants may register onsite; however, those who do not pre-register will unable to obtain accommodations at the conference center.
Sessions will begin at 1:30PM on Thursday, July 8. Accommodations at the conference center will run from the afternoon (from 1:00PM) of Thursday, July 8 through checkout at 9:00AM on Sunday, July 11. Participants staying at the conference center will also receive breakfast on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; lunch on Friday and Saturday; dinner on Thursday and Friday; and the banquet on Saturday evening. The price will be $695 per person for a single room and $645 per person for those staying in one of the multi-person rooms. In addition, all participants must pay an $85, non-refundable registration fee. (Spouses and partners must register individually for a room; however, they will not be billed for the registration fee.) A $200 deposit will be required of all participants and travelling partners. (If you are not currently a member of one of the sponsoring organizations, you must join prior to registration or you may add Cliometric Society dues to your registration and establish membership for 2004.)
***** PLEASE NOTE: *****
No more rooms are available at the conference center on San Servolo. Please see the information on alternative accommodations, below.
Participants who prefer to stay in a local hotel or who cannot be accommodated at the conference center should contact: Ms. Gilda Zaffagnini at NEXA; Phone: +39-041-5210255; Fax: +39-041-5285041; email nexa@flashnet.it
The hotels (two-three star) that have been contacted are all located near St Mark's Square and opposite the Island of San Servolo where the congress will be held. The location of the hotels will make transportation to San Servolo easier. The approximate room rates including breakfast and taxes are (per room per night): single room (few single rooms are available) Euro 110; double room Euro 170; double for single occupancy Euro 145.
Hotel Reservation Deadline
The city of Venice is characterised by strong tourist demand; hotels in the historic centre have a small number of rooms the majority of which are double. About 60 rooms have been kept with an option expiring on April 30 2004. It is highly recommended, therefore, to make a reservation well in advance and possibly before April 30 2004. A "first come-first served" rule will apply.
Participants staying in a local hotel who wish to dine at the conference center may do so for Euro 60 a day. (Breakfast on Sunday, July 11, will be Euro 10.)
Directions
Information on how to get to the island of San Servolo from the historic center of Venice, from the Marco Polo International Airport, and from other locations is available on the Venice International University's web site.
