Final Practical Details for the 2008 EHA Conference Participants:

Regarding travel using the discounted tickets or the free EHA shuttles:

  1. Discounted tickets. If you want to obtain one, you can provide payment once you register. If you haven’t yet confirmed these with Jari Eloranta, please do so as soon as you can. The tickets need to be booked with CT Limos, and we need your flight details for that. In terms of where and how to take the shuttles, here are the details:

At John F. Kennedy International Airport or LaGuardia Airport, the passengers should obtain their luggage and then check-in at the Ground Transportation desk located in the baggage claim area. Once they have checked-in they will be scheduled on the next available shuttle.

At Bradley Airport, the passengers would obtain their luggage and then use one of the designated courtesy phones to check-in for service.

    • In Terminal A: the phone is located between baggage claim Units 4 & 5 and is on a phone board with the hotel courtesy shuttles. Dialing “07” is required to reach the airport dispatcher.
    • In Terminal B: the phone is located near baggage claim Unit 3 and it does not require dialing, it rings upon picking it up.

All passengers booked with the shuttle service are dropped-off and picked-up at CT Limos’ terminal located at 600 Long Wharf Drive. Passengers may request to be dropped-off at the Omni Hotel from the airport only and if it is available the driver may drop them off as a courtesy otherwise they will be dropped-off at our terminal on Long Wharf Drive. From the terminal, passengers should take a taxi to the hotel.

For service to the airport, all passengers are required to leave from our terminal on Long Wharf Drive and arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their departure time. If the terminal is closed at the time of their departure, pick-up will be in front of the terminal office doors. To get to the terminal, the Omni staff will be happy to assist you in getting a taxi.

  2. Free EHA shuttles.  As our meeting website specifies, EHA will provide free transportation from the airport to the hotel at 10 PM on Thursday evening (two buses, each with 10-passenger capacity) and on Friday morning (one coach bus, with 47-passenger capacity) departing at 10.30 am. The busses will be operated by Connecticut Limo. Using a courtesy telephone, you should check in with ground transportation information personnel who will indicate the location of the bus, which will have an EHA sign attached to it. You should also confirm with Jari Eloranta (unless you already have done so!) that you are taking one of these shuttles.

Travel Information for the 2008 EHA Conference in New Haven, CT

Travel to New Haven (General Information)

There are many ways to get to New Haven for the meeting. The most convenient by plane is through Bradley (BDL), located near Hartford, Connecticut. From there, you have several options: the free non-stop bus organized by the EHA (seating is limited), an EHA subsidized shuttle ticket, taxi (expensive) or rent a car (relatively cheap). Newark (EWR) in New Jersey is also fairly convenient, because of good rail connections to New Haven. From the other New York area airports, John F. Kennedy (JFK) and LaGuardia (LGA), participants can use an EHA subsidized shuttle ticket (limited availability), or rent a car. All of these airports are served by numerous airlines. In contrast, Tweed New Haven airport (HVN) is served almost exclusively by USAirways. The EHA recommends that the participants use either Bradley, New Haven, or Newark, since they are by far the most convenient in terms of ground connections to the hotel.

Other options include travel by:

Subsidized Travel to and From Airports

Thanks to generous support from Yale University, the EHA is able to offer subsidized transportation to and from several of the airports, although space will be limited. To use these services, book your flight first, then contact the Meetings Coordinator, attaching your itinerary to your email message. Seating is limited and seats will be confirmed on a first come first served basis. Please note that the free shuttles we are providing operate on a predetermined schedule. If you are delayed, we cannot hold the bus for you, nor take responsibility for arranging or paying for other transportation. Further information and reservations for the free shuttles and subsidized limos can be obtained from the Meetings Coordinator, Jari Eloranta (, 828-262-6006).

To help your planning, the first session on Friday, September 12 begins at 1:30 pm. The last session for the conference on Sunday, September 14 ends at 12:00 noon.
