Subject: Golden Jubilee of simplex algorithm
To: MATH-HISTORY-LIST@ENTERPRISE.MAA.ORG
This summer marks the 50th anniversary of George Dantzig*s invention of
the simplex algorithm. I would appreciate any references to printed, on-line
or audiovisual materials _accessible to a community college student_ writing
an essay to mark this anniversary.
I am aware of the following two items:
Donald J. Albers with Constance Reid, **An Interview with George B. Dantzig:
The Father of Linear Programming**, _College Mathematics Journal_ 17:4 (Sept.
1986), pp. 293-313.
Robert Freund et al., **Professor George Dantzig: Linear Programming Founder
Turns 80**, _SIAM News_ (November 1994) (also available at
<http://www-or.stanford.edu/faculty/dantzig.art.html>)
